UCI Track World Cup in Minsk
20 Jan 2018

The 2017-18 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup gathered about 300 athletes from 36 countries at the Minsk Arena velodrome on 19-21 January. The Belarusian capital has a big experience in hosting large-scale international sporting events, including the 2009 UEC European Track Cycling Elite Championships and the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. The recent sport forum has proved another evidence of the UCI trust and became a so-called exam ahead of the 2019 European Games in Minsk.

The three-day competitions featured 17 medal events in nine disciplines. Yauheni Karaliok of Belarus was victorious in the men’s scratch. The 21-year-old athlete has already won a number of indoor tournaments and also the Minsk Grand Prix road race.

The country’s new record was set by Uladzislau Novik, Yauhen Veramchuk, and Artsiom Zaitsau from the Minsk cycling club, who came in sixth in the Men’s Team Sprint. The 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands will name new champions and medalists on 28 February – 4 March.
