2017 International Сherry Festival

2017 International Сherry Festival
21 Jul 2017

Glubokoye, a cosy town and the "cherry capital" of Belarus, once again hosts guests for its cherry festival. The famous branded festival marked its 5th anniversary this year. The cherry festival welcomed official delegations from eight countries: Germany, Georgia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and France. Residents and guests of Glubokoye and also other cities of Belarus joined the five-day festive marathon to celebrate cherry, art, friendship and love of the homeland.

This could perhaps be the dream-come-true of well-known plant breeder Boleslav Lapyr who bred new winter varieties, sweet and juicy cherry hybrids in the early 20th century. Today cherry trees can be seen virtually near every house in the town. Five years ago a young orchard of 1,414 cherry trees was laid in the suburbs to mark the first mention of Glubokoye in historical chronicals. Today, Glubokoye fleshes out new ideas for tourists before each of its festivals. For instance, this year the town was beautified with decorative signs and a street clock. The future plans include the opening of an art gallery and a summer amphitheater.

The fifth Cherry Festival included dozens of events: an exhibition of arts and crafts titled Cherry Fair, the ethno party In a Cherry Garden, the national costume fashion show In the Footsteps of Time, the ethno disco With Friends, a festive parade featuring the Cherry Queen, the unveiling of the art composition Friendship of Nations, a review competition of farmsteads, a "Cherry Wedding" event, a competition among accordionists, and many others…
