Belarusian Written Language Day in Shchuchin

On the first weekend of September the ancient town of Shchuchin, the literary capital of Belarus 2015, hosted the national holiday of written language, history and culture. This year’s Written Language Day gave start to the preparations for the landmark date – the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing. The famous Belarusian enlightener Francysk Skaryna became a pioneer book printer by publishing the first Bible the East Slavic lands.

As part of the Belarusian Written Language Day  the town hosted all kinds of events: the international roundtable "Concord: the literary process and the information society”, the conference "Shchuchin Readings", the competition of recitationists "Living Classics", the  presentations of books and exhibition projects, exhibitions of literary and media publications, meetings with Belarusian writers and artists.

The Belarusian Written Language Day brought together writers from 15 countries: Armenia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The National Literary Award ceremony was held for the first time. The awards were presented to six outstanding Belarusian writers, among whom were the experienced and also young talented authors: writers, poets, playwrights...
