Easter vigil at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Grodno

The evening service at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Grodno began with clergy led by Bishop Vladimir Gulyai of the Grodno Diocese stepping out onto the square in front of the church, where they blessed the fire and lit a large candle – the Paschal candle. This light was solemnly carried into the church, and the faithful lit their own candles from it. The glow of the candles flickered in the darkened church as a symbol of Jesus bringing light into our world to save us.
