Marina Zueva of Belarus finished sixth in the 5000m event at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Italy on 2 February.
Twelve athletes competed in the longest women’s distance. Skating in the second pair, Zueva outpaced Canada’s Laura Hall with a time of 6:57.70. Her result stood as the best up until the fourth race, but after an ice resurfacing, five of the six favorites overtook Marina’s time. The victory went to Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida (6:46.17), while the Netherlands’ Merel Conijn and Norway’s Ragne Wiklund took silver and bronze respectively.
