Victory Day: the holiday in honor of the great feat celebrated by the whole of Belarus
9 May 2021

Celebrations in honor of the 76th anniversary of the Great Victory were held in Minsk and in all regions of the country on 9 May. The main and perhaps the largest event was a ceremony to lay flowers and wreaths at the Victory Monument. Official delegations of government agencies, enterprises, representatives of public associations and trade unions, district administrations, clergy, MPs, and youth gathered to honor the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. The event wrapped up with the Victory Day songs performed by the country’s leading adult and children’s choirs. After that, the flags of the USSR and the Republic of Belarus were unfurled on the square, and thousands of balloons in the colors of the state symbols flew into the sky.

Meanwhile, a themed festive program kicked off in Victory Park. Visitors could see a concert of orchestras and music bands, a fight show, and a show of service dogs from the K-9 center of the Armed Forces. The exhibition of military equipment was the highlight of the program. By noon, the concert “My Spring! My Victory!” unfolded at the Sports Palace where the pre-war period was re-created and a concert of popular war-time songs was held.

In addition to official events, residents of all districts of Minsk were invited to enjoyconcerts, interactive zones, exhibitions of military equipment and weapons, traditional field kitchens. Just like in previous years, most of the festivities were held in parks. Komarovsky Park, Yanka Kupala Park, Pavlov Park, Park of Extreme Sports, the sites near the National Library of Belarus and Chizhovka Arena hosted such entertainment as sports and intellectual contests.
