On 9 May, the Republic of Belarus celebrates Victory Day – a holiday hard-won in the fierce battles for the freedom and independence of the homeland. For the country’s residents, this day is not only a celebration but also a day of remembrance, deep respect, and gratitude to all those who helped bring about the Great Victory.

On 9 May 1945, eighty‑one years ago, the Great Patriotic War came to an end with victory – a victory forged over 1,418 days and nights of unyielding struggle. The Soviet people played a pivotal role in the fight against fascism, bearing the brunt of the war and, in doing so, charting the course for all of world civilization.
