Belarus’ Bolshoi Theater Turns 85!

Belarus’ Bolshoi Theater Turns 85!
24 May 2018

The National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus has turned 85! The theater, whose history stretches back to the 1920s, is one of the largest in Europe and the world today. The theater is proud of its beautiful design and high-tech equipment but, above all, its artists: the famed company of the Minsk Bolshoi has enjoyed many years of success with Belarusian and foreign audiences.

The theater received numerous congratulations. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko wished the theater big premieres and interesting performances.

On its birthday, 25 May, the National Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus hosts a gala concert and Doors Open Day. First held in 2015, these events have become a good tradition. On this day the theater welcomes anyone who would like to take a peek into the life behind the curtains and get the feel of the mystery of art. In the evening the theater showed Carmen, with which it debuted in 1933. 85 years on, Carmen starred French-Moroccan mezzo Ahlima Mhamdi.

On 24 May the theater hosted a gala featuring the Bolshoi prima ballerinas and guest stars: Vladimir Galusin, Nina Ananiashvili, Ilze and Andris Liepa, Teimuraz Gugushvili and many others.
