Registration of candidates to new parliament kicks off in Belarus

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Registration of candidates to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation will be held by district election commissions on 8-17 October, BelTA has learned.

After registration, candidates will begin their pre-election campaign in mid October. District election commissions will hold a draw for candidates to decide on the date and time of their appearance on the state radio and TV channels.

Candidates’ statements will be broadcast on radio and television from 21 October to 6 November on working days. Radio broadcasts will be available from 7 am to 8 am, TV broadcasts accompanied by subtitles or sign language - from 7 pm to 8 pm. Airtime will be allocated by Radio-Minsk and Belarus 3 channel for candidates standing for election in Minsk and by Minskaya Volna radio station and STV channel for those running for Minsk Oblast. The corresponding regional TV and radio companies will allocate airtime for candidates nominated in other regions.

Airtime for TV debates is reserved for no more than five minutes per candidate. The procedure for organizing and holding debates, dates and hosts are determined by the TV and radio companies.

Candidates have the right to publish their election programs either in one of the national newspapers (Zvyazda, Respublika) or in the corresponding regional newspaper, or in newspapers published on the territory of their district. Candidates should submit the texts of their programs to the media before 27 October.

The elections to the House of Representatives will be held on 17 November, to the Council of the Republic - on 7 November.
