PACE delegation examines rules regulating election campaigning on TV, radio in Belarus

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) –Belarus’ National State TV and Radio Company hosted the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) led by Gisela Wurm (Austria), who are in Belarus on a pre-electoral mission, on 10 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the company.

The meeting with head of the PACE delegation Gisela Wurm (Austria) and her colleagues from Armenia, Norway, Montenegro, France, Poland and Italy was attended by Chairman of the National State TV and Radio Company Gennady Davydko, First Deputy Chairman Alexander Salamakha, Deputy Chairman Marat Markov, General producer Kirill Kazakov, representatives of the international relations directorate of the company.

The parties discussed the political climate in the run-up to the parliamentary elections and the role of the media in such an important event. During the visit the PACE delegation got familiar with the structure and the broadcasting policy of Belarus’ National State TV and Radio Company, the conditions created for candidates who will start campaigning on 15 August as they make appearances on TV and radio.

The PACE delegation visited Belarus’ National State TV and Radio Company after a meeting with Chairperson of Belarus’ Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina. The PACE delegation already met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko and representatives of the permanent commissions on human rights, national relations and mass media, and international affairs of the House of Representatives
