Over 330 CIS observers accredited to monitor Belarus’ parliamentary elections

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has accredited over 330 CIS observers to monitor the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA learned from the headquarters of the CIS observation mission.

“The formation of the CIS observation mission is still ongoing. As of today, the Central Election Commission of Belarus has accredited 332 international observers from the CIS,” the mission informed. The mission continues monitoring preparations for the elections. On 16 October head of the mission Sergei Lebedev visited the district election commission of Logoisk Constituency No. 75. CIS long-term observers visited electoral districts of Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast, Mogilev Oblast and the city of Minsk where they inspected the work of district and precinct election commissions. Candidate registration was in focus of the observers during these trips.

The members of the mission attended sessions of district election commissions during the candidate registration process. They pointed to the equal playing field for all contestants. The sessions were organized very well and were attended by potential candidates, observers and journalists. Over 60% of the 560 registered candidates were nominated by political parties, which will ensure competition and representation of various political views at the elections, the CIS mission believes.

The formation of precinct election commissions is followed by trainings for chairmen of the commissions.
