Nomination of candidates to Belarus’ upper house to begin 21 July

MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) - Nomination of candidates to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus will begin on 21 July, chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina said in a video posted on the Elections 2016 website on 14 July, BelTA has learned.

Candidates to the upper house of Parliament will be nominated by the presidiums of district and city (oblast capitals) Councils of Deputies and district and city executive committees, Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies and Minsk City Hall.

Members of the Council of the Republic will be elected by deputies of the local councils of the base level in each oblast and Minsk City Council.

According to the schedule of the campaign to the upper house of Parliament, the nomination of candidates to the Council of the Republic will run through 19 August.
