More than four candidates running for one seat in Belarusian parliament

MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – The candidates-per-seat ratio in the Belarus parliamentary elections has reached 4.5, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 14 July, BelTA has learned.

Lidia Yermoshina noted that 445 teams of prospective candidates are now collecting signatures. She also informed that CEC finished a series of seminars for chairpersons and secretaries of territorial and district election commissions, heads of local executive and administrative bodies, and personnel management departments and divisions. “We gave them final instructions, with the focus on the implementation of the OSCE recommendations given after the presidential election campaign,” Lidia Yermoshina stressed.

As was reported, nomination of candidates to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus will begin on 21 July

As of 11 July, Belarus’ Central Election Commission accredited 240 national observers for the parliamentary elections to the House of Representatives. 21 observers represent political parties, 204 - public associations.

The Central Election Commission also accredited 44 observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States. Eight observers represent the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
