IPA CIS observers to monitor Belarus’ elections inside and outside the country

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – International observers representing the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA CIS) will monitor Belarus’ parliamentary elections inside and outside the country on election day on 17 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the IPA CIS.

“In line with individual plans, on election day the IPA CIS observers will monitor the elections at polling stations in Minsk, Minsk Oblast and Grodno Oblast and will also monitor out-of-country voting in Baku, Yerevan, Kishinev and Saint Petersburg,” the press service said.

The IPA CIS observation mission includes 46 international observers representing nine countries that are member states in the IPA CIS (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). Among them are MPs, representatives of supreme legislative bodies, as well as members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council and experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIA IIMDD).

The IPA CIS observers are part of the CIS observation mission. The CIS mission has 475 observers led by Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.
During the long-term observation, experts of the IPA CIA IIMDD have prepared findings on the compliance of the laws regulating the elections to the House of Representatives with international standards for democratic elections. The IPA CIS observers studied the course of the election campaign in Minsk and Vitebsk Oblast. The long-term observers prepared a report based on the findings of the long-term observation.

During the short-term observation meetings will be held with high-ranking officials of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, the Central Election Commission of Belarus, the Minsk Oblast election commission, leaders of political parties and public associations taking part in the elections and heads of observation missions of other international organizations.
