CEC: 1,029 international observers accredited at Belarus’ parliamentary elections

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has accredited a total of 1,029 international observers to monitor the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation, BelTA learned from the CEC’s website.

The largest observation missions have been deployed by the CIS and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights – 475 and 346 observers respectively. The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has deployed 83 experts, PACE – 28, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization – 17.

Some 53 diplomats and 21 representatives of election bodies of foreign countries have been accredited as observers at the elections in Belarus. Six independent experts will monitor the election campaign as well.

According to the CEC’s latest data, election commissions have accredited 28,000 national observers: 1,700 from political parties, 23,100 from public associations, 1,200 from labor collections and 1,900 from individuals.

17 November is Election Day to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. A total of 513 candidates stand in the election race.
