Buzovsky calls for wider use of local mass media in election campaign

LIDA, 30 August (BelTA) – Deputy Head of the Belarus President’s Administration Igor Buzovsky has called upon candidates to make a wider use of local mass media during the ongoing election campaign in Belarus. He made the statement during a ceremony to launch the Tvoye Radio station and to celebrate the inclusion of the Lida TV programs into the ZALA interactive package for Grodno Oblast on 30 August, BelTA has learned.

According to Igor Buzovsky, the election campaign is in full swing in the country and the number one task for the mass media is to provide full coverage of the process and ensure the corresponding feedback. In his words, contenders for the parliamentary seats are provided will equal rights and ample opportunities to conduct the election campaign. The primary goal for the candidates is to make the best use of these opportunities.

“It is not a secret that local mass media are the ones that raise up more concrete issues, matters of people’s concern. At the national level we more often discuss the issues related to lawmaking and legislative activity, international relations, social and economic development of the country. Local mass media mainly focus on the issues that are of concern in a certain area,” the Deputy Head of the Belarus President’s Administration said. According to Igor Buzovsky, candidates to the Belarusian Parliament should make a wider use of the information resources in their election campaign in order to achieve higher popularity with the people of his constituency.

The elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus are due on 11 September.
