Belarusian MPs eager to work harder to leave little 'homework' for new members

MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – The House of Representatives of the sixth convocation plans to work the hardest during the autumn session to pass important draft laws which are currently under consideration, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko told the media after the meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 16 September, BelTA has learned.

“There is still a lot of work to do. Some 60 issues are under consideration. Of them 40 have been included into the working schedule. We will do everything necessary to avoid leaving a lot of work for the new parliament,” the speaker of the House of Representatives said.

Vladimir Andreichenko added that MPs would focus on the draft national budget for 2020. “We will do our best to pass the national budget 2020 before the new parliament is elected,” he said.
budget 2020 before the new parliament is elected,” he said.

Assessing the performance of the House of the Representatives of the sixth convocation, Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that the MPs did well in lawmaking. “A lot has been done. Some 236 laws passed by the current parliament have been signed by the president,” he said.

Great results were achieved in the international arena as well. “Minsk played host to the 26th session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. We strengthened our positions in the OSCE PA. Over the past three years no resolution against Belarus has been adopted. MPs of the House of Representatives prepared three resolutions that were adopted by the OSCE PA,” the chairman of the House of Representatives said. Belarus also expanded cooperation with MPs of Switzerland, Poland, and the Czech Republic. “The Belarusian parliament is well-recognized and respected,” he said.

The head of state suggested organizing his meeting with MPs to thank them for the work done. According to Vladimir Andreichenko, such meeting can take place at the Palace of Independence once the parliament of the current convocation competes its work.

As for the plans, about 30 MPs expressed intention to stand for re-election. “MPs have gained useful experience. I think they will be in demand in the government bodies,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
