Lukashenko, Mirziyoyev meet in informal setting in Tashkent

TASHKENT, 7 February (BelTA) – Upon arrival in Tashkent, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev. An informal meeting of the heads of state took place at the Humo Arena Ice Palace, BelTA has learned.

The presidents decided to attend the match of the Kazakhstan Open Ice Hockey Championship between Humo Tashkent and Nomad Astana.

As is known, both leaders love this sport. Aleksandr Lukashenko does not only support this sport in Belarus, but also takes part in the National Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament as part of his team. And Shavkat Mirziyoyev helped revive this sport in Tashkent. Thanks to his support, Humo Arena was built in the capital. In terms of seating capacity it is the largest ice arena in Central Asia and the second largest in the CIS after Minsk Arena. The multifunctional complex has been named in honor of the mythical bird Humo, a symbol of happiness, peace and kindness in Uzbekistan.

It is worth mentioning that while on an official visit to Belarus in 2019, Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave Aleksandr Lukashenko a thematic souvenir - an unusual statuette of a hockey player.

The heads of state are set to hold official talks in Tashkent on 8 February. The focus will be on ways of deepening interstate relations, intensifying trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

"The parties will pay special attention to the development of cooperation in various industries, including in agriculture, science, education and tourism," the press service of the Belarusian leader said.
