Project name: Top-class hockey in a small village

Implementation period: one year

Project goals:

To build a 5x5 field hockey stadium and set up a sports ground (a workout zone) to create conditions necessary:
- to train field hockey by students of the Specialized Olympic School for Children and Youth Zamostochye, Minsk district (Lugovoslobodskoy Rural Executive Committee);
- to conduct PE lessons for the students of the Zamostochye secondary school;
- to increase the number of people in Zamostochye agro-town who lead a healthy lifestyle and do sports

Project tasks:

1. To implement the physical education and sport program for training sports reserve.
2. To select promising young athletes and transfer them to the highest training establishments.
3. To train young athletes and improve their health through physical activity and sports.
4. To promote physical culture and sports, healthy lifestyle, active recreation among the residents of Zamostochye

Target group:
- students-athletes of the Specialized Olympic Reserve School for Children and Youth Zamostochye;
- students of the Zamostochye secondary school;
- residents of Zamostochye agro-town

Brief description:

1. To study legislative requirements to the organization and operation of a sports ground (a workout zone).
2. to develop design and estimate documentation for stadium building.
3. To carry out work to improve the infrastructure of the Specialized Olympic Reserve School for Children and Youth Zamostochye:
- building a 5x5 hockey stadium
- equipping the stadium with lighting systems and locker rooms
- covering the track with synthetic coating for warm-ups
- producing and installing workout facilities.
4. To host an open 5x5 field hockey tournament to mark an official opening of the stadium with the coverage of the event in the media.
5. To organize socially significant community work for students to help them attain athletic skills and abilities, promote a healthy lifestyle, enhance students’ functional capabilities, raise students’ physical development level.
6. To organize leisure activities, celebrations, competitions for students together with their parents and residents of Zamostochye agro-town.

Total financing (in US dollars): $78,800

  • Donor funds: $48,500
  • Co-funding: $6 000 – Minsk District Executive Committee; $24,300 – Belarusian Field Hockey Federation 

Project site:

Specialized Olympic Reserve School for Children and Youth Zamostochye was founded on 23 July in 1993 by Minsk Oblast Trade Union of Agricultural Workers.

The official founder of the establishment is the primary trade union organization of the Minsky sovkhoz of the open joint-stock company DORORS. The field hockey division was set up in 2000. A total of 148 children do the sport now. The sport school students constantly win prizes at state and international competitions. Nineteen students were accepted to Belarusian hockey clubs from 2008 to 2021. They demonstrate great performance during Belarusian Championship and international events. Some 13–15 our students and graduates play for the Minsk Oblast men’s team on a regular basis. The Minsk Oblast indoor hockey team is based at our school.

Our school is a multiple winner of different competitions and tournaments, including:
- Belarusian Children and Youth Indoor Hockey Meetings in 2001, 2003, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2020, 2021 (gold);
- Belarusian Children and Youth Indoor Hockey Meetings in 2014, 2015, 2017 (silver);
- Belarusian Children and Youth Indoor Hockey Meetings in 2004, 2011, 2018 (bronze);
- Belarusian Indoor Hockey Championship in 2016 (gold).
- Belarusian Indoor Hockey Championship in 2020 (silver).
- Youth Field Hockey Olympic Days in 2009–2010, 2015 (silver).
- Youth Field Hockey Olympic Days in 2005–2008, 2011, 2018 (bronze).
- Belarusian Independence Day Field Hockey Championship in 2011, 2018 (silver).
- Belarusian Independence Day Field Hockey Championship in 2007–2010, 2013 (bronze).
- Belarusian Youth and Children Field Hockey Meeting in 2021 (silver).

The school has trained:
- over 200 first-class junior athletes;
- more than 90 first-class athletes;
- over 30 candidate masters of sports;
- ten masters of sports.

Specialized Olympic School for Children and Youth Zamostochye conducts free training sessions in a gym (18mx30m) owned by the Minsky sovkhoz of the DORORS Company.

In 2020, the gym walls and ceiling were renovated and its lighting system was replaced thanked to the assistance of the Sports Club of the Belarusian Trade Unions Federation, the trade union committees of the agricultural sector of Minsk District and Minsk Oblast, the Belarusian Transport and Communication Workers Trade Union, and the united trade union organization of railway and transport construction workers based in the Belarusian Transport and Communication Workers Trade Union.

The administration of the school works on expanding the number of children in Minsk District involved in doing sports. Plans for next year is to set up a group of children for playing field hockey in Privolny village.

After-project activities:

The implementation of the project will contribute to:
- the modernization of the sport movement in Minsk District;
- the preparation of the reserve for field hockey teams;
- high-level PE lessons in Zamostochye school;
- health improvement of Minsk District residents.
