Humanitarian project: Sports rehabilitation program for young people with disabilities in Zhitkovichi

Project name: Sports rehabilitation program for young people with disabilities in a gym at the day-care center for people with disabilities and senior citizens

Implementation period: 1 year

Applicant: Zhitkovichi Territorial Center of Social Services

Project goals: To improve the physical state and health of young people with disabilities and senior citizens to enable them to do without state assistance as long as possible by promoting adaptive physical education and adaptive sports in the city of Zhitkovichi; by setting up a multi-functional sports hall at the day-care center for people with disabilities and senior citizens of the Zhitkovichi Territorial Center of Social Services; by creating a universal barrier-free environment for children with disabilities and disabled people.

Project tasks:

1. To organize regular classes in the gym for disabled people, children with disabilities, and senior citizens.

2. To set up the conditions for classes for families with disabled children.

3. To purchase, deliver and install necessary specialized equipment for the gym

Target group: People with disabilities, children with disabilities and their families, senior citizens.

The project is expected to cover at least 50 families and at least 80 people.

Brief description of the project activities:

Project activities include three phases.

Stage 1. Preparatory

To purchase and deliver equipment, conclude contracts, enroll persons with disabilities in groups for adaptive physical education classes, hold a general parent meeting on organizational matters, to raise awareness about the program among senior citizens.
   
To organize medical consultations for the disabled and their parents on individual training methods based on medical parameters.

Stage 2. Principal

1. To develop rehabilitation programs for groups of people with disabilities and senior citizens: to organize consultations with a physician on physical therapy, an education coach on adaptive physical.

2. To invite a psychologist, for advice and assistance.

Regenerative activities for disabled people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system is the most effective way for comprehensive rehabilitation, correction and compensation of motor disorders, development of physical qualities and coordination abilities, and also improving emotional state and personal qualities. Medical parameters will be taken into account on on a case-by-case basis. Classes will be conducted by adaptive physical education coaches with necessary qualifications and work experience.

3. To organize a cycle of consultations for parents on rehabilitation classes for children with disabilities, specialists’ advice for parents.

4. To organize joint classes and sports activities, leisure time of families with disabled children, disabled people and senior citizens.

Stage 3 Final

1. To collect feedback from program participants. To conduct repeated medical examinations in order to see the results achieved. To analyze the data and summarize the project implementation.

To prepare a video with materials about the program for further distribution among organizations concerned and parents of children with disabilities.

To plan further work with the target group after the project.
