Humanitarian project Comfortable Home of Lyakhovichi Social Services Center

Project name: Comfortable Home

Implementation period: 1 year.

Applicant: Lyakhovichi Social Services Center

Project goal: Creating comfortable living conditions for the elderly and persons with disabilities, providing the necessary social, medical and cultural services.

Project objectives:
- providing home-like care to the elderly and the disabled;
- providing accommodation and housing assistance to the elderly and the disabled;
- providing transportation means to the elderly and the disabled;
- raising funds to improve the living conditions for the elderly and the disabled;
- providing moral and psychological support to people, helping them with personal and social recovery.

Target group: Senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Brief description of the project activities:

The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. The share of the elderly is increasing in Belarus and Lyakhovichi District in particular every year. According to the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, as of 1 January 2019 Lyakhovichi District was home to 7,674 people above working age, or 31% of the population of the district. This prompts introduction of new social services to this group of people. One of them is opening a 24/7 care center for the elderly and the disabled.

The center will provide accommodation, a separate bed, the necessary furniture, bedclothes and household items, four meals a day, pre-medical care, help with hygienic procedures, leisure activities, etc.

In order to offer comfortable living conditions, it is necessary to facelift the building, landscape the surrounding area, make the building barrier-free, purchase  social rehabilitation means (wheelchairs, canes, bedside tables, bath seats, etc.) and equipment (dishwasher, washing machine, etc.).

Total amount of financing (USD): 66,250.

Source of funding:

  • Donor funds: 60,000
  • Co-financing: 6,250

Project site: Lyakhovichi District, Brest Oblast
