Group of Zimbabwe kids arrives in Belarus for rest, recreation

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – A group of children from Zimbabwe has arrived in Belarus for recreation and health improvement as part of a humanitarian program that the leaders of the two countries had agreed on earlier, BelTA has learned.

According to the Zimbabwean news portal ZimNow, 20 school students went to Belarus as part of a cultural exchange program designed to strengthen educational and humanitarian ties between the two countries. The delegation includes students aged 12 to 15: two representatives from each of Zimbabwe’s ten provinces.

The program is being implemented as part of a humanitarian initiative backed by the Belarus president. It provides for inviting children from partner countries to get familiar with Belarusian culture, the education system, and daily life as well as to communicate with their peers from Belarus.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Zimbabwe Yuri Nikolaichik noted that the visit is meant to help strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between the young people of the two countries. He said: “This is a purely humanitarian project. We are glad that a group of Zimbabwean children has gone to Belarus. And we hope that such humanitarian exchanges will continue.”

During their stay in the country the school students will take part in cultural events and educational workshops, and will visit various institutions and historical sites. All this will help them learn more about Belarus and make friends with their Belarusian peers.

Upon arrival in Minsk the delegation was welcomed with traditional bread and salt.
