Belarus' presidential election: National exit poll due on 9 August

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) - The national exit poll will be held on 9 August during the presidential election. The poll has been initiated by the office of the Interstate Broadcasting Company Mir in Belarus, its director Vladimir Pertsov told reporters in Minsk on 28 July, BelTA has learned.

The survey will be conducted by the Youth Laboratory of Sociological Studies at the Belarusian Union of Public Associations “Belarusian Committee of Youth Associations”. “We turned to the Belarusian Committee of Youth Associations as this organization has a positive experience of conducting opinion polls, exercising public control over the electoral process in the previous campaigns of 2010 and 2015,” Vladimir Pertsov said. He recalled that the results of their surveys were quite close to the results of the vote and almost completely coincided with the results of the exit polls which were carried out by other reputable foreign organizations.

“There is a demand for objective sociological research. We have grown a bit tired of amateurish sociology. We want to use civilized forms of social research in our electoral process,” Vladimir Pertsov noted.

For his part, Chairman of the Belarusian Committee of Youth Associations Pavel Alekso noted that the Youth Laboratory of Sociological Studies has an accreditation certificate (No.000037) from the Commission on Public Opinion Polls at the National Academy of Sciences. “The laboratory employs highly-qualified specialists: sociologists, political scientists, scientific consultants. They conduct social studies at the international level using universally accepted methods,” he said.

“We have developed a survey network and already tested it. We have interviewers with work experience. We are ready to carry out such a large-scale serious survey," Pavel Alekso said.

The exit poll presentation was held in Minsk on 28 July, during which journalists were also shown the uniform that interviewers will be wearing.
