Venezuela diplomat: No major tensions during electoral campaign in Belarus

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – The electoral campaign in Belarus is open, with no major tensions, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Belarus Maria Antonia Cabeza Avila accredited to monitor the presidential election in Belarus told BelTA.

“This is my first experience as an observer. I am satisfied with the course of the electoral campaign. It is open and calm, with no major tensions. In any case, if we compare it with presidential election campaigns in Venezuela, the difference is tangible. In our country, electoral campaigns are noisier, more emotional, with loud music. Lots of campaign materials are printed. Posters and leaflets are distributed everywhere. Many political meetings, pickets, demonstrations are organized. In Belarus, everything is under control and is regulated. There have been few street demonstrations. At the same time, all the necessary information related to the presidential election is widely available,” Maria Antonia Cabeza Avila noted.

She also said that the electoral campaign is broadly covered by the media. The presidential candidates are campaigning in compliance with Belarus’ electoral law. “I am happy to see that there is a woman among the candidates for the post of the President of Belarus. In Venezuela, the number of women in high government positions is growing. This means that the role of women in the modern world is changing,” Maria Antonia Cabeza Avila added.

The diplomat stressed that the present presidential election in Belarus is interesting for her as she is living and working in Belarus and she cares about what is happening in the country. “I like to learn about new aspects of life in the country since Belarus and Venezuela have close relations and strong political and trade ties,” Maria Antonia Cabeza Avila noted.
