Tatiana Korotkevich’s appeal against election results dismissed

Tatiana Korotkevich’s appeal against election results dismissedMINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has dismissed the appeal of ex-presidential candidate Tatiana Korotkevich against the results of the presidential election, BelTA has learned.

The appeal was presented by Igor Lyalkov, Tatiana Korotkevich's representative to the CEC with an advisory vote, on 16 October. He claimed that the preliminary results of the monitoring of the presidential election revealed gross and systematic violations of the Belarusian legislation. He also asserted that the electoral campaign was not compliant with Belarus’ Election Code and the Copenhagen criteria.

Igor Lyalkov said that Tatiana Korotkevich's team believes that the team of one of the presidential candidates used administrative resources at the stages of collecting signatures and campaigning. He also claimed that some of the distributed campaign materials violated the law. Other complaints were related to vote count and early voting. Igor Lyalkov also noted that there might have been cases of ballot-box stuffing at some polling stations. However, no direct allegations were made.
