MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) – This year the representation of public associations in election commissions has made up 47.5%, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told media on 24 July, BelTA informs.
According to the CEC head, as of 22 July territorial election commissions comprised 1,916 people (2,623 people were nominated). Public associations accounted for 47.5% of the total representation in election commissions (44% in 2010). “As for representatives of political parties, I can say that their representation has slightly increased to 7.8% this year,” she noted. Election commissions have also comprised representatives of opposition parties.
This year civil servants account for 20.1% of the members of the election commissions, about as many as in 2010 (20.4%). Citizens under the age of 30 account for 6% (8% in 2010). "Women, as always, account for the major part of the members of the territorial commission. This year they make up almost 59%, up 2% from 2010," Lidia Yermoshina noted.
The number of members nominated by labor collectives decreased to 11.3% (16.5% in 2010)."With regard to the members nominated through the collection of signatures by a group of citizens (10 persons) who can send a representative to any commission, except the CEC, this year the figure is 33.4%, almost the same as in 2010,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
