26 Aug 2015

OSCE election observers to arrive in Minsk on 31 August

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Election observers from 16 OSCE member states will come to Minsk on 31 August, head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission Jacques Faure told journalists on 26 August, BelTA has learned.

According to Jacques Faure, 11 specialists from 10 OSCE member states have already arrived in Minsk. Thirty-six more long-term observers will join them next Monday. They will work in every region of Belarus.

“Ahead of the election day we expect a more sizeable group of short-term observers (about 400 people) to arrive in the country,” said Jacques Faure.

In his words, the activity of the mission will also include joint efforts together with the observers of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The mission will publish one interim report during its work in the country. A final report on the observation of the entire electoral process will be issued a day after the election. The OSCE will also publish recommendations to improve the electoral process in the country. “The report will be submitted to the Belarusian authorities,” head of the election observation mission said.
