Presidential election 2015 in Belarus

Number of election observers accredited by Belarus’ CEC increases to four

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has accredited the fourth observer for the 2015 presidential election, BelTA learnt from the official website of the Central Election Commission of Belarus.

Attending the CEC meeting on 17 July were observers from the public association Belaya Rus (Sergei Pigarev), the Belarusian Helsinki Committee (Dmitry Chernykh), and the National Party of Labor and Justice of Belarus (Eduard Naryshkin). According to the official website of the Central Election Commission, the number of observers was increased to four by representative of the Belarusian left party Just World Alexander Yevdokimchik.

The presidential election will take place in Belarus on 11 October 2015. The second round of voting if needed will be held before 25 October. The collection of signatures to support presidential candidates will take place from 23 July to 21 August inclusively. Three initiative groups to nominate their candidates for the post of the President of Belarus have been registered by the Central Election Commission so far. These are the initiative groups of Alexander Lukashenko, Sergei Kalyakin, and Sergei Gaidukevich. On 20 July the CEC will consider the documents to register other initiative groups. The Central Election Commission has received 14 applications for the registration of initiative groups.
