MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – The voting day should be a celebration for Belarusians, while foreigners may assess the election as they want, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session held on 1 October to discuss the current social, economic and political situation in the country, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that since Soviet times the election day has been a celebration for people. We have everything to turn this election into a celebration too; there will be no expenses connected with entertainment or retail, the head of state is convinced.
The President stressed that the organizers of the election do not try to coax anyone: “This is inadmissible. Belarusians are not fools, they understand everything. When we begin to coax people, they wonder why and what for we are doing it. Therefore, do not do stupid things. We must take part in the election and remember that it is an exam. We must fine-tune everything and turn this election into a celebration for people.”
“Foreigners are free to say whatever they want about the election. They hold such events in a different way, it is a kind of a show there,” the head of state added. The election in the country will be held in compliance with the Belarusian legislation and the Constitution; and no one can break these laws, he said. The President emphasized that Belarus is ready to listen to the opinion of the West about the election legislation and to revise the legislation if their proposals are rational and reasonable, if they do not contradict the national legislation. The Belarusian side has already done a lot in this field.
