MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev expressed hope that observers from Ukraine will take part in the monitoring of the presidential election in Belarus. He made the statement on 19 August, BelTA has learned.
“We hope that all the countries of the CIS will be represented in the CIS observation mission. We sent invitations to the heads of the central election commissions of all the eleven CIS member states,” Sergei Lebedev noted.
He said that the Ukrainian side has not yet responded to the invitation to participate in the CIS election observation mission. However, the elections in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan showed that Ukraine prefers to deploy its representatives as independent observers rather than as members of the CIS observation mission. “We hope that Ukrainian representatives will participate in the monitoring of the president election in Belarus in any capacity,” Sergei Lebedev added.
