Korotkevich suggests stronger state support for education, healthcare

BREST, 30 September (BelTA) – State support for education and healthcare should be increased, candidate for the post of the President of Belarus Tatiana Korotkevich said as she met with voters in Brest on 30 September, BelTA has learned.

“I want to emphasize that our main suggestion is to restore the quality and accessibility of medical and educational services and ensure that all have equal opportunities regardless of where they live, in Minsk, Volkovysk, Ivatsevichi, or Brest. We think that to achieve this we should provide stronger state support for these very important sectors. At present, together they receive 14% of the state budget. Meanwhile, the same amount is spent to maintain the state apparatus. We believe it is necessary to cut the salaries of government officials and support those who provide us with medical treatment and those who teach our children,” Tatiana Korotkevich said. The proposal got a round of applause.

The candidate described the main points of her election program and presented her vision of addressing the urgent problems of the society. When speaking about economic reforms, Tatiana Korotkevich noted that economic legislation should be more stable and friendly. “It is easy to give freedom to private initiatives. We do not need additional money to do this. We should help young people and well-established entrepreneurs implement their business ideas. To achieve this, we need to streamline our business laws, break the chains that bind our businessmen, and let them pay taxes and create new jobs,” the presidential candidate stressed.

Tatiana Korotkevich’s 33rd meeting with voters took place in Brest on 30 September. She has already visited 70 Belarusian cities and towns. It was the third time that she had visited Brest. Two previous visits were held at the stage of forming initiative groups and collecting signatures.

Tatiana Korotkevich told journalists that she has plans to visit other 50 cities and towns of Belarus as part of her campaign. In her words, many issues are raised during the meetings. “We speak about the quality of life in the regions, remuneration of labor. As a young politician, I am always happy to talk with every person who comes to meet with me. There are many such people, and their number is growing,” the candidate noted.
