Four OSCE/ODIHR observation missions monitoring election campaign in Minsk Oblast

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – Four long term observation missions of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights have been monitoring the Belarusian election campaign in Minsk Oblast, head of the main department for ideological activity, culture and youth affairs at the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Ruslan Trukhan told BelTA.

OSCE/ODIHR long-term observers from the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and other countries are working in Minsk Oblast. So far they have visited almost every district of Minsk Oblast. International representatives take part in meetings of candidates’ proxies with the public, study the activities of territorial and precinct election commissions, hold talks with local authorities,” he noted.

According to Ruslan Trukhan, the CIS election observation mission has also been actively working in Minsk Oblast. So far its representatives have visited Berezino, Borisov, Vileika, Dzerzhinsk, Logoisk, Volozhin, Molodechno, Smolevichi, Soligorsk, Slutsk Districts and the city of Zhodino. About 30 representatives of the CIS mission have been monitoring the election campaign in Minsk Oblast.

National and international observers will monitor not only the preparation for the presidential election in the country. On the voting day, 11 October, observation missions will monitor the opening of polling stations, election day procedures, the vote count and tabulation of results.
