MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – The CIS will deploy more than 40 long-term observers for the president election in Belarus. This issue was discussed at a meeting between head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev and Chairperson of the Belarus Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

"The focus will be on long-term monitoring which will be carried out by more than 40 people," the press service noted. It is planned that the observation will involve representatives of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the State Duma and the Federation Council, and also the states-members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The mission's headquarters will coordinate the work of the observers. It has, in fact, commenced work. The mission’s headquarters will have offices in all oblast centers which would help organize the work of observers in towns and districts, keep contact with the territorial and precinct election commissions, and monitor the stages of the election campaign.

The press service reported that already next week the long-term observers will visit all the oblasts where they will get acquainted with the formation of territorial election commissions, the progress in verifying the signatures gathered by initiative groups for nomination of the presidential candidates, attend the meetings of district and city executive committees on the issues of formation of the precinct election commissions.

The final document of the CIS mission will be based on the consolidated findings of long-term and short-term observers.
