CIS observers prepare interim report on Belarus president election campaign

MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – The observers sent by the Commonwealth of Independent States to monitor the Belarus president election campaign have prepared the first interim report about the election campaign in Belarus. The statement was made by the mission’s head Sergei Lebedev after getting familiar with the operation of the Logoisk District election commission on 21 September, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Lebedev, the report will be published today or tomorrow. The report evaluates Belarus’ election laws that have been changed a lot in the last few years for the sake of improving democracy during elections and taking into account interests of citizens to a larger extent.

The head of the CIS observation mission noted that the election campaign in Belarus was proceeding in full compliance with the legislation.

“We have received information that the Central Election Commission has received 133 complaints, complaints have been received by the Interior Ministry and the prosecution service. These complaints are carefully looked into, answers are given, measures are taken. The observation mission keeps an eye on it. The key purpose is to make sure that Belarus citizens freely express their will,” he added.
