Chinese observer: Election in Belarus transparent and democratic

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – The election in Belarus was transparent and democratic, the head of the Chinese international observation mission, Chinese Foreign Ministry Ambassador Yu Zhenqi said in an interview with BelTA.

The Chinese delegation of observers arrived in Minsk on invitation of the Belarus Central Election Commission. When meeting with the Chinese mission CEC head Lidia Yermoshina said that it was the only mission from a separate country, and the first observation mission of China in Belarus. "It is a great honor for us to be observers during the important political process in Belarus. I would like to note that we had the most pleasant impressions from visiting polling stations in Minsk,” said Yu Zhenqi.

The representative of the Chinese observation mission visited polling station No. 1 as Alexander Lukashenko voted in the election. The head of the Chinese mission and the President of Belarus had a conversation. "It was brief but meaningful. We talked like old friends - briefly and concisely," the diplomat said.

"We will report to Beijing how the election was held, and share our impressions," said Yu Zhenqi. According to him, the day after the election the mission of China will make an official statement on the results of the election.

"I have the warmest attitude towards Belarus as a country where I spent about three and a half years as head of the Chinese diplomatic mission. I have the warmest attitude towards Belarus," added the representative of the People's Republic of China. “Belarus is a beautiful country with open and friendly people, and very importantly, it supports its President Alexander Lukashenko, and seeks to move forward,” the diplomat said.
