Belarus interested in transparent presidential election

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in making the forthcoming presidential election as transparent as possible. The statement was made by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei during the press conference held on 29 June after the fifth informal dialogue of the ministers of foreign affairs of the EaP participating countries, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has already stated it is ready to invite observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and possibly the European Parliament if they are willing to be invited. “We are not going to cover the preparations for and the actual election because we are interested in making it transparent,” stressed Vladimir Makei.

“We should not become attached to some specific events in relations with the USA and the European Union,” said the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also stressed that Belarus is interested in normalizing and stepping up relations with the European Union, the USA and other partners.

Having dedication and commitment to advance the relations is what matters, concluded the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
