Active participation of Belarusians in presidential election praised

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarusians demonstrate high activity during the presidential election, BelTA learned from State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota as the official visited polling stations No. 90 and No. 91 in Minsk on 11 October.

Grigory Rapota said: “I am pleased with the vigorous progress of the election process. Political activity always evokes positive feelings. The active stance of Belarusians can be probably explained by the general situation that makes people think.”

The State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia noted that for now he had no remarks about the organization of the voting process. He said things were organized in an excellent manner. In his words, no remarks were voiced during talks with the observers, who had been working for some time already. “It is understandable that vote counting is ahead of us. But for now we see high political activity, good conditions for the work of observers,” he said.

Grigory Rapota noted that representatives of the Permanent Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia had gone to see polling stations not only in Minsk but other cities and towns, too. The observers paid attention to how the registration of voters had been taken care of, what conditions for the free expression of will are enabled, how voting booths are organized. The observers also noted the presence of transparent ballot boxes, which is a state-of-the-art feature of the election process.

Apart from that, the availability of complete information about candidates was mentioned as important. “This work has been going on in the course of the last month. We have analyzed mass media and understand that the voters have up-to-date information,” said the official.

Grigory Rapota underlined it is important for the election process to proceed in accordance with the country’s laws. The national legislation represents a reference point. If everything proceeds according to the law, then the process is open and transparent, he concluded.
