Lukashenko: Transition to green technologies and a knowledge economy is on the agenda

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Transition to green technologies and a knowledge economy is on the agenda. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the fifth Belarusian People’s Congress on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

“We have preserved and modernized the conventional industries. Apart from that, we have made some headway into developing brand new branches of the economy such as nuclear energy, space exploration, biotechnologies and other branches. Now making the transition to green technologies and a knowledge economy is on the agenda,” stressed the President.

Alexander Lukashenko said that the output of innovative products has more than quadrupled in the last five years. “Considerable accomplishments have been secured in Belarus with regard to high technologies, in particular, the production of optical and laser instruments, automated control systems. A number of software products by Belarusian developers are now recognized far and wide in the world. Belarus is ahead of all the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States in terms of export of computer and information services per capita,” stated Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state noted that in terms of educational standards Belarus is in a group of 30 developed nations and is ahead of all the CIS states. “As far as access to education is concerned — admittance of children to schools, the number of university students — Belarus is on par with developed nations and is ahead of many countries in Europe and the world. The republic is a leader in the number of vocational school students per 10,000 capita,” concluded Alexander Lukashenko.
