Lukashenko: Belarusian People’s Congress is not a PR move

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The forthcoming fifth Belarusian People’s Congress is held not for some publicity move but for the sake of working out the country’s development strategy for the five-year period, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the government meeting held on 26 May to discuss the main provisions of the country’s social and economic development program for 2016-2020 which is to be submitted to the fifth Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.

“We are not preparing a publicity stunt here. We need this meeting to decide on our further steps during the five-year period. We need to work out the guidelines for the society. It will be an open talk between the authorities and representatives of the public,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian People’s Congress will be attended by experts that have proved their worth and know how the country lives today. “These will be representatives of our people, and the authorities on the other side. We need an open fair discussion. We should work out the relevant documents,” the head of state said.

“There is no need in hiding our drawbacks. People see everything. We will talk about everything good that has been done during the past five years and also within the contemporary history. The main goal of the Congress is to work out a development strategy for 2016-2020,” Alexander Lukashenko added.
