Belarusian People’s Congress will discuss production and market diversification

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Production and market diversification will be discussed at the 5th Belarusian People’s Congress, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ permanent commission on industry, fuel and energy complex, transport and communications Yevgeny Obolensky told BelTA.

According to him, MPs of the permanent commission view the forthcoming people’s forum as an important milestone on the way to renew the basis of Belarus’ social and economic development. “Having faced a whole number of external problematic issues, we see that in the modern economic conditions we should rely, first of all, on ourselves, our potential and resources, diversify production capacities and markets,” said Yevgeny Obolensky. He expects that these themes will be highlighted at the 5th Belarusian People’s Congress.

“Our unity, mobilization of efforts and the maximal use of internal reserves in all the fields is the best way to strengthen the wellbeing of the Belarusian nation. This pertains to the economy, which efficiency can be considerably enhanced through the reduction of costs, optimization of the management system, orientation on the most advanced sectors and technologies, enhancement of the investment attractiveness, and also social and cultural sphere,” the MP said.

In his words, MPs attach special attention to the issues of securing efficient employment that brings both economic and social pluses. Highly-productive jobs mean the GDP growth, value added and good wages and confidence in the future for people. “These issues will be talked over in detail,” the MP said.

Closely cooperating with the government, including during the consideration of its action plan for 2016-2020, MPs are often discuss the need to concentrate the efforts and financial resources in the areas where the country should become a regional or world leader. “We have such examples, and they give reason for elaborating new approaches to the industrial policy. Without accelerating the development of ICT, advanced mechanical engineering, nano- and biotechnologies, without the renewal of the transport and energy complexes, without the use of the potential of small and medium-sized business it will be hard for us to progress and leave behind the countries which are trying to catch up with their competitors. It is important to use the untapped potential and attract investment for innovative needs in order to intensify the economic modernization, adjusting it to a more competitive world environment, making it more export-oriented. I think such goals can be included into the final documents of the congress and become a roadmap for all stakeholders, from companies to top executives,” said Yevgeny Obolensky.

The MP also said that the parliament has already been working on a number of important documents. These are bills on power industry, automobile transport, competition development and counteraction to the monopolistic activity, economic insolvency and bankruptcy, technical regulation and others.
