U.S. delegate: Construction of nuclear power plants ought not to be politicized

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Issues related to the construction of nuclear power plants should not be politicized, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, a U. S. delegate to the OSCE PA session in Minsk, told the media on the sidelines of the session, BelTA has learned.

“Construction of nuclear power plants ought not to be politicized. It is something that ought to be based on science,” Gwen Moore said.

The U. S. delegate noted that the controversy between Belarus and Lithuania is due to the fact that the plant is built close to the border of the state. Gwen Moore emphasized that such things should be negotiated.

The meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment reviewed the draft resolution “Strengthening energy security in the OSCE region” presented by the delegate from Ukraine, Olga Belkova. According to the document, the OSCE PA calls on the member states to use the OSCE as a platform for the exchange of information and best practices in energy security. The MPs supported the resolution by a majority vote.
