OSCE MPs discuss traditional family values in Minsk

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Parliamentarians from the OSCE member states discussed the preservation of traditional family values in Minsk on 7 July. The discussion was held as a pro-family lunch in the Minsk Theological Academy, BelTA has learned.

The event was organized upon the initiative of Claudio D’Amico, member of the lower chamber of the Italian parliament, member of the Northern League Party (Lega Nord). The MP said: “We are in favor of preserving traditional family values and getting OSCE PA parliamentarians united on the matter. The union of a man and a woman represents a natural family. We can see today how the idea of creating one-sex families is getting promoted in European countries. At the same time a child needs a mother and a father.”

Claudio D’Amico stressed: “I believe that in many countries there are people, who support the movement in favor of preserving the traditional family. Our main goal is to allow them to speak up.”

The MP also shared his impressions of visiting the Belarusian capital city. “Minsk is a very beautiful city. One can feel safe here. Everything is clean and orderly,” he said.

Veronika Serdyuk, Chairwoman of the charity association Center for Supporting Family and Motherhood Matulya, noted that Belarusian experience of supporting the family and preserving family values was presented during the meeting. “Work in these areas in Belarus meets high standards,” she said.

It was the second time discussions had been held in this format. The previous pro-family lunch took place in Georgia. The meeting in Minsk gathered members of the parliaments of Russia, the USA (republicans), Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Greece, and a representative of the Vatican in the OSCE. It was the first time Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) Roberto Montella had been present at the lunch.
