Zaslavl to stage canoe sprint test event ahead of 2nd European Games

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Zaslavl will play host to a canoe sprint test event ahead of the 2nd European Games. The Belarus Open Cup will take place at the National Olympic Rowing Center on 28-30 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the Directorate of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019.

Competing for the regatta medals at the rowing canal in Zaslavl will be teams of the Belarusian oblasts and the city of Minsk, athletes of the national Olympic centers, Olympic and other sport schools. According to the rules of the competitions, athletes born in 2003 or earlier are eligible to take part in the competitions.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 10.00. The first competition day will comprise 1,000m preliminary, semifinal and final races in different classes. The winners in the 500m events will be announced on 29 August and those in the 200m and 5,000m categories will be made known on the final day of the competitions.

Candidates to volunteers for the 2nd European Games will help in the organization of the competitions. Among the organizers of the event are the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry, Minsk City Hall, Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the National Olympic Committee, the Directorate of the 2nd European Games 2019 and the Belarusian Canoe Federation.

Minsk has already played host to the beach soccer and judo test events ahead of the 2nd European Games. They were a success and were held at the sport venues which will be used during the multi-sport forum: the National Beach Soccer Stadium and Chizhovka Arena.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in about 200 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in 10 sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
