Volunteer work during 2nd European Games described as fantastic opportunity for young Belarusians

MOSCOW, 27 September (BelTA) – Working as a volunteer during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 is a fantastic opportunity for young Belarusians, BelTA learned from the Olympic champion and member of the Russian parliament Svetlana Zhurova. The MP took part in a youth forum of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 27 September.

Svetlana Zhurova said: “I am glad that Belarus will host such a remarkable event – the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. Securing the right to host the event is a great accomplishment and a great responsibility.”

According to the MP, volunteers were the face of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. “Because they always welcomed guests with smiling faces. They were always helpful. And people, who came to Russia, totally changed their opinion of Russia and spread a good word in their own countries. The same thing will happen in Belarus,” remarked Svetlana Zhurova.

The Olympic champion believes that the experience of doing volunteer work may come in handy later in life, including in gainful occupations. “This is why you have a fantastic opportunity. You will have an unforgettable event if you work as a volunteer during the European Games,” the MP told Belarusian participants of the forum.

Svetlana Zhurova also said that she is Belarusian by one forth. “My last name is Belarusian. I have Belarusian roots. I’ve always treated Belarus with reverence,” she added.

The youth forum of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 26-30 September. Taking part in the forum are leaders of youth and university student self-administration bodies, representatives of public organizations and the expert community from Belarus and Russia. The main purpose of the forum is to work out a strategy to advance youth integration in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
