Robot takes over 2nd European Games flame relay in Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – A robot took over the Flame of Peace relay race of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 in the Hi-Tech Park on 19 June, BelTA has learned.

The flame keepers transferred fire from an icon lamp to the robot’s torch. Later on the relay race went to Director of the Hi-Tech Park resident group of companies Synesis Aleksandr Shatrov, Miss Wheelchair World 2017 Aleksandra Chichikova, Chairman of the Belarusian Cybersport Federation Denis Bogush, Synesis Sport Company Director Dmitry Shvedko, and Head of the Software Development Department at EPAM Company Yevgeny Ovchinnikov.

EPAM Belarus Director of Operations Olga Shelushkova noted: “The Flame of Peace has travelled a long way. Today in the run-up to the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 we are happy to welcome it in the Hi-Tech Park.” She wished victories and new records to athletes and entertaining competitions to fans.

Aleksandr Shatrov was the first one to take over the relay race from the robot today. He remarked that torch bearers were happy to be part of such a significant event as the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. “The fire relay race is nearing completion. The event all of us have been looking forward to and preparing for will begin soon. It is exhilarating,” he said. “It is significant for us that the relay race we are taking part in is taking place in the Hi-Tech Park because our company created the IT platform for the games.”

Today the Flame of Peace has already been to Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, MAZ, and MTZ. The relay race will continue on 20 June. The Flame of Peace will be taken to the Botanical Gardens and the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater.

The flame of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 will be lit in the Dinamo Stadium on 21 June as part of the solemn opening ceremony of the multisport forum. A total of over 4,000 athletes will take part in the games. The competitions will take place at 12 sport venues in Minsk.
