Petrishenko: Regatta course in Zaslavl ready for 2nd European Games

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - The regatta course in Zaslavl is ready to welcome athletes and fans of the 2nd European Games, Belarus Vice Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko told the media as he visited the facility in Zaslavl on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

The sprint canoe tournament in Zaslavl will feature 16 medal events on 25-27 June. Igor Petrishenko said that that Belarusian team has certain medal hopes in canoe at the upcoming games.

“The organizing committee keeps a watchful eye over all European Games facilities. We visited the regatta course in Zaslavl several days ago. Since then the complaints we had voiced have already been resolved: food service area for the athletes, storage facilities and warm-up area have been polished and are fully ready. Good conditions have been created for fans. The seating capacity has been increased. As the regatta course is the only facility located outside of Minsk, transport logistics of athletes and fans has been worked out. Journey time will take not more than 20 minutes,” the vice prime minister said.

Igor Petrishenko also visited the Athletes Village on 20 June where he met with Belarusian athletes and coaches and wished them successes at the games.

“Accommodation conditions are brilliant. Foreign athletes are pleased with the accommodation. We have also taken a look at the work of the athletes clinic which has been fitted with new equipment for athletes recovery after the competitions. This facility has received a thumbs up from foreign coaches. The guests of the Athletes Village also approved of the Belarusian cuisine. They liked our dairy products very much. As of early 20 June some 2,389 athletes already settled in the village,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The Belarusian culture center has opened in the Athletes Village. There, the guests have an opportunity to learn more about Belarus.

Igor Petrishenko urged fans to actively support the participants of the 2nd European Games not only in the stands of sports facilities but also in the fan zones which have been set up in Minsk, regional centers, and also in the cities of Molodechno and Bobruisk. According to Igor Petrishenko, the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games on 21 June promises to be spectacular and memorable. The event is almost sold out, with few tickets left.
