Over 30 agreements signed to use 2nd European Games trademarks

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – The Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) signed over 30 trademark license agreements. Another 20 agreements are in plans, Acting Deputy Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property Aleksei Kurman told reporters on 21 March, BelTA has learned.

The Minsk European Games Organizing Committee registered two trademarks containing a logo and a slogan of the games. No one can use them without the permit of the holder. “The center has registered 32 trademark license agreements. Some more agreements are now undergoing the registration procedure. All in all, over 50 trademark agreements are to be signed by the MEGOC,” Aleksei Kurman said. The mascot and other symbols are also protected by the copyright law and their use should also be agreed on with the copyright holder.

Trademark license agreement registration costs 10 base amounts (one base amount equals Br25.5) per one trademark. Registration is done within 10 days.

Trademark license agreements have already been concluded with various organizations. These are small businesses producing souvenirs, factories making printed products and confectionaries. Apart from that, such agreements are to be signed with companies producing bottled water and non-alcoholic beverages. The Minsk European Games Organizing Committee promised to process applications to use trademarks and logos for non-commercial purposes within a short period of time.

Maksim Koshkalda, the head of marketing and advertising at the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee, said that the 2nd European Games will be broadcast in the territory of 125 countries. There are plans to increase the number of broadcasters up to 160 territories. “One of the key objectives of MEGOC’s marketing service is to promote trademarks. We copyrighted many types of merchandise in December and some types of merchandise in January. Therefore, copyrighted products will be available in stores by April. There are plans to sell this merchandise online,” he said.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports.
