Second European Games in Belarus

19 Jun 2019

Over 160,000 tickets sold for European Games events in Minsk

Over 160,000 tickets sold for European Games events in Minsk

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – More than 160,000 tickets for the 2nd European Games events have already been sold, said Aleksei Bogdanovich, Manager for Communication, PR and Mass Media of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC), on 19 June, BelTA has learned.

“As of yesterday’s morning, over 160,000 tickets have been sold. Today’s figure must be even bigger. It was initially planned to sell 190,000 tickets, however as more tickets became available, their number rose to 250,000,” he said.

Almost all tickets to archery events were sold. The same pertains to rifle and pistol shooting. Beach soccer was another sold-out event. As for artistic gymnastics, tickets for the upper balcony are on sale now. There are some tickets for the opening ceremony left, but very few.

By the way, the opening ceremony will be something to remember. This will be a stunning show enhanced with AR features, with many people and technologies involved. The famous Russian and Austrian soprano Anna Netrebko will be the headliner of the event. “We could invite a famous pop singer, however the very concept of the ceremony implies a performer like Anna Netrebko,” Aleksei Bogdanovich said. Another rising star – Dimash Kudaibergen from Kazakhstan – fits the ceremony concept as well. Dimash Kudaibergen won the vocal contest of the International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk in 2015.

The 2nd European Games will draw many foreigners. “Over 20,000 tickets were sold abroad. However, this is pure statistics: fans had an opportunity to indicate the country of origin while purchasing their tickets. Some did it, some did not. We believe that the real figure can be two times bigger,” Aleksei Bogdanovich noted.

He said that in the recent month, fans from places within 700km from Minsk became more active, especially from Moscow and Saint Petersburg. This is attributed, among other things, to advertisements placed in search engines and sports websites.
