Minsk receives thumbs up ahead of European Games

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - Minsk has prepared well for the 2nd European Games, Rector of the Azerbaijani Academy of Television and Radio Broadcasting Faik Gusiyev told reporters before the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State-Run and Public Television and Radio Organizations, BelTA has learned.

“In 2015 Azerbaijan was the first country to host the European Games. As you know, it is always difficult to be a trailblazer. But, nevertheless, as experts said, Baku did a perfect job. The games were flawless. While in Minsk, I can say the city is ready. I think we will see wonderful European Games,” Faik Gusiyev said.

In his words, the main state-run sports TV channel of Azerbaijan “Sport” will broadcast the games. “Azerbaijani viewers will have an opportunity to see the Minsk competitions in full. The TV channel will also air the daily highlights of the 2nd European Games,” the rector of the academy said.

The 2nd European Games has attracted a lot of interest in Azerbaijan. “We have passed over the baton to you, and will watch closely how Belarus is hosting this large-scale event. I think everything will be fine,” Faik Gusiyev said.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June and will feature over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries competing in 200 medal events across 15 sports. The opening ceremony of the games is due at Dinamo Stadium on 21 June.
