Minsk 2019: Belarusian wrestler Vasilisa Marzaliuk clinches gold

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarusian wrestler Vasilisa Marzaliuk won the Women’s 76kg gold at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

On her way to the podium the Belarusian beat Russia’s Natalia Vorobieva 2-1, Austria’s Martina Kuenz 3-2, Estonia’s Epp Mae 5-3 and Germany’s Francy Raedelt 9-0.

“I felt the responsibility and knew that I could do everything. I just fought for the victory. Today it was easier for me than yesterday. I did well,” said Vasilisa Marzaliuk.

Head coach of the Belarusian national women’s wrestling team Oleg Raikhlin was happy with the performance of his team. “The first day was difficult. We did not win medals in the events we could. There is tough competition here. Iryna Kurachkina did really well. We have the Olympics ahead. There is no time for relaxing,” he said.

Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina won the Women’s 57kg gold. Viyaleta Chyryk finished fifth in the Women’s 50kg event. Ali Shabanau took the Men’s 86kg silver. Aliaksandr Hurshtyn secured the Men’s 97kg bronze.
